DEMOCRACY UNDER THREAT IN AKURE: TARGETED REMOVAL OF HON. MICHAEL AFOLABI OLAKUNLE’S CAMPAIGN MATERIALS

We condemn in strong terms the deliberate and targeted removal of campaign posters and billboards belonging to Hon. Michael Afolabi Olakunle (Mikey) from major roads in Akure.

Last week, all billboards around Akure City Hall were pulled down. As of today, materials from A-Division to Cathedral axis have also been removed by unknown persons.

Disturbingly, Opay and other commercial adverts on the same street light poles were left untouched. Only Mikey’s campaign materials were singled out and destroyed.

This act of political intolerance comes after Mr. Governor’s comment that “everywhere is full of APC.” Democracy thrives on freedom of expression, not selective sabotage.

We call on the Nigeria Police, DSS, and all security agencies in Akure to urgently investigate, arrest, and prosecute those behind this attack on democracy.

Let ideas compete, not destruction.
